Two Shows That Start with an “H” Debuting in the Same Week

The Chicken Bone FX team hopes you watch two shows that premiere this week which both happen to start with an “H”– “Hacks” and “Halston!”  Yes, we are nerds and these types of anomalies tickle us.  The types of visual effects our talented artists used for these shows will be invisible to the average viewer….let’s see if you can spot them. #compositing

Hacks

“Hacks” premieres its first three episodes Thursday, May 13 on HBO Max. Two new episodes will be released on subsequent Thursdays until the finale on June 10.  Jean Smart headlines in this showbiz story about an aging successful comedian coping with changing times.  Hannah Einbinder, a real-world up-and-coming comedian, also stars.  In the end, “Hacks” is a comedy about comedy– and HBOmax co-creators and showrunners Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello, and Jen Statsky (all “Broad City” veterans) nail it– growing appeal with every episode, succeeding on the expert execution and sound structure of great scripts as well as the never-in-doubt genius of Smart.

Halston

Halston premiers 5/14 on Netflix.  Starring Ewan Mcgregor, the miniseries written by Ryan Murphy, portrays the life of Roy Halston Frowick, the Bergdorf Goodman milliner who got his start as a Chicago hatmaker and shot to fame in the ’60s, becoming mononymic after designing First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy’s pillbox hat for her husband’s presidential inauguration in 1961.  One thing we love about Halston is the costume design! Jeriana San Juan (“The Plot Against America,” “The Get Down”) does a fantastic job of re-creating Halston’s most iconic looks.  San Juan also collaborated with production designer Mark Ricker (“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”).  Dan Minahan directs.  It’s fabulous!
