Chicken Bone FX created the New York City holiday magic you see in Netflix’s new American romantic comedy streaming television series created by Joe Tracz, based on the young adult series Dash & Lily’s “Book of Dares” by David Levithan and Rachel Cohn. The 8-episode series premiered on Netflix on November 10, 2020.
What we’re hearing everyone say is what a delightfully bright spot this television series is at a particularly challenging time for most. Dash & Lily leaves you with all the magical sparkly snowy feelings of the holidays we all enjoy. In this case, VFX is invisibly supporting and helping tell the story of this lovely rom-com. No explosion or gore here.
Fun fact: Dash & Lily was shot in the summer/fall. So all of the snow you see is visual effects. Another fun fact: The Jonas Brothers were super troopers. The day they performed their concert, as seen in the show, the forecast called for sunshine. Well, the forecast proved incorrect. Shortly into their show, the skies let loose buckets of rain. After a quick consultation between production and our VFX team, production felt confident Chicken Bone FX could transform the dull rainy day into a bright snowy holiday scene. The Jonas Brothers continued to give an energetic performance, despite the rain, and the day was saved.
